Surgical Services

MidState Medical Center has a well-established PA service working within the full spectrum of surgical services including General, Robotic, Bariatric, Urologic, Thoracic, Vascular, ENT, with minimal coverage of Neurosurgery and Orthopedics. This opportunity will provide coverage for Orthopedic, Neurosurgical, and Urologic services.

  • Physician Assistant Role Scope
  • Fracture care including reduction, casting and splinting.
  • Perform Daily patient rounds and Implement therapeutic intervention
  • Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral or evaluation
  • Provide H+P and discharge summary for patients
  • Ordering diagnostic studies as part of clinical treatment plan
  • Performs various duties to assist surgeon in the OR
  • Perform and assist with bedside procedures Display professional competency in the OR Catheterization and catheter management
  • Identify and provide teaching for patients, families, and other health care providers
  • Shift: Full-time, nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications Advanced Practitioner Requirements

  • Graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant in the state of Connecticut
  • Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant.
  • 3+ years working as a Physician’s Assistant, First Assistant in the operating room is preferred.
  • Considerable knowledge of anatomy and physiology; knowledge of the surgical procedures performed in the various surgical specialties and subspecialties and the supplies and equipment used in those specialties; knowledge AORN recommended practices and procedures. Knowledgeable in practices involved in patient care as it relates to different disciplines and disease states.
  • Knowledge of medications and their reactions and interactions; Counseling skills; considerable interpersonal skills; ability to work independently; ability to work under pressure.
