President Obama Signs Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act into Law - On Friday, July 22, President Obama signed the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) into law. This law will help address the nation's addiction epidemic and includes a section authorizing Nurse Practitioners, who meet certain criteria, to provide lifesaving medication assisted therapies to patients battling heroin and other opioid addictions. AANP will continue to monitor the process going forward and update membership on the implementation and regulation borne out of the new law. Please stay tuned to AANP for the latest developments.
