Legislative Update for week of May 4th to 12th
Yesterday, the Senate unanimously approved an amended version of HB 400 that includes a number of provisions to address the mental health and DCYF crises. The mental health portions of the bill look to increase the number of beds in designated receiving facilities and at NHH (the latter by moving out the 24 youths who are currently in NHH), as well as creating additional transitional and peer crisis respite beds and an additional mobile crisis team. One key part of the bill is the re-establishment of a mental health medical supervisor position. Under the terms of the bill, that position must be either a psychiatrist or a psychiatric NP.
