H.R. 6, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act Passes the House!
As we reported in last week’s newsletter, the House and Senate were meeting to negotiate a final opioid package, and Friday, September 28, the House passed H.R. 6, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. This bill is the final compromise legislation between the House passed and Senate passed versions of H.R. 6. This legislation makes permanent the authorization for NPs and PAs to prescribe medication-assisted treatments (MATs). Also included is a provision authorizing CRNAs, CNSs and CNMs to prescribe MATs for five years.

Thank you to everyone who reached out to your Members of Congress encouraging them to support this legislation. It is also important that you thank your Representatives who voted “yes” to pass this important legislation in the House. There is still work to be done, as it is anticipated that the Senate will vote in the coming weeks. We ask that you keep the momentum going by using the AANP Advocacy Center to urge the Senate to vote for passage of this legislation.
