Legislative Update

Posted 4 months ago by Jennifer Thompson

Good news to pass on to you this week. On Wednesday, the House HHS Committee voted unanimously to recommend that the full House reject HB 509, the graduate physician pilot program bill.  This was a priority bill for NHNPA, and Mary Bidgood-Wilson testified at the public hearing on the bill to express NHNPA’s opposition.  This will be on the floor next week.

In other news this week, the Senate held a hearing on SB 1, legislation to establish a Family and Medical Leave Insurance program.  We will be providing you with further information on this in the coming weeks, as FMLI will be one of the leading issues considered by the legislature this session.  Although there is widespread support for the concept of FMLI, there is extensive disagreement over just what an FMLI law should look like. In addition to SB 1, there will be a House bill (HB 712, which will have a hearing next week), and there is also a plan that has been rolled out by the Governor. We will keep you informed as this moves along.
