Call to Action - Federal Legislation on Home Health

Posted 5 months ago by Jennifer Thompson

On Friday, 4/11/19, you may have received an email from the AANP Government Affairs Team asking for you to take action on the Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act.

During this year’s AANP Health Policy Conference, AANP reported that legislation on home health care was forthcoming in the House of Representatives. Just this week, Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Buddy Carter (R-GA), Ron Kind (D-WI), Mike Kelly (R-PA), Susan Wild (D-PA) and David Joyce (R-OH) introduced H.R. 2150, the Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act

This legislation is identical to the Senate bill which was part of our advocacy efforts during Capitol Hill Day and would authorize NPs to certify their patients’ need for home health care. Last Congress, this legislation had 182 cosponsors in the House and with our grassroots outreach, we can achieve even greater support in the 116thCongress.   Passage of this legislation will make it possible for NPs to provide necessary services for their Medicare patients by allowing them to certify that patients under their care are eligible for home health care services.  For me, this will mean I can now sign the face-to-face form versus running around the hospital looking for a MD to sign.

In February, we met with Senator Hassan, Senator Shaheen (staff), and Representative Pappas, all were in favor of supporting this legislation.  Your letter today will remind them that this is still a very important obstacle to patient care.  I am confident of their continued support.
See your email from AANP for the link provided to send an email to your Representative and urge them to cosponsor, or thank them for supporting, H.R. 2150.  You can also go to the AANP Advocacy Center for more information.
Please email if you have any questions.
